Art Exhibit + Best In Show

Art Exhibit
I will be having my first solo art exhibit starting July 4th at the Carmichael Inn. It is a very historic hotel in my hometown that was renovated into a coffee shop/cafe. I will be holding an opening reception from 6-9 July 4th followed by a closing reception at the end of the month. Since It's my first show, I want it to be the best.

The theme of the show will be "the story of my life". I will be displaying many of my most personal drawings that give insight to my own life and feelings. Many of the pieces will be trompe l'oeil, surrealism, and realism.

I will be giving away several originals and tons of prints. So make sure to mark it on your calendar!

Best In Show
I submitted "Rock Face" into the AACA's Annual June show in Athens. I ended up walking away with best in show. The judge had some very nice words to say about the piece. I will be posting some pics into my scraps ASAP.

:bulletred: Random Deviant...
Ok, So I have had a number of people tell me I do my random deviant hello thing just for pageviews. To clear this up, dA is not about pageviews at all. I do RDH in order to meet new artists and feature their work. I have met tons of amazing artists this way.

What Makes Art... Art??

What Makes Art.. Art?
Well, in my last journal, many of you gave me your opinions on what makes an artist. This time I would like to ask what makes something ART. Is it the amount of skill put into a piece? The time it took to create it... the size of the piece. Composition, color... ?? Tell me.

Think about this a little, you guys know I like to interrogate you and your answers. Think about many different styles of art as well.. not just the ordinary.

I look forward to your answers.

Your Thoughts Please.

Tell Me What Makes An Artist?+ Your Art As Music

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 1, 2008, 8:43 PM

Your Art As Music??

Simple question... If your art was a band/musician/performer who would it be and why??!?

What Makes An Artist
Last week I met an 80 year old artist named John Steele. His exhibit contained various loose landscapes which read as abstracts. I got a chance to talk with him and ask him a few questions. He had loads of knowledge and I could tell he knew what he was talking about. After all, How many of us can say we've been creating art for 60+ years?

Anyway, He used to be a teacher and went on about how you could only call a handful of his fellow art teachers Artists. For him, a true artist meant changing your style and not sticking to the norm. I don't know if he says this because of his modernistic style. Are you an artist if you find something you're good at and stick with it? Tell me what you think makes an artist.

Your Thoughts Please.

Should You Show Students Your Work+ Tagged

Art Education

So, as some of you already know, I'm studying to be an art teacher/instructor or something of that sort. I'm taking another education class where I have to do observation hours. I was chatting with the teacher and asked if it would be alright to bring some of my work in one day. She said it wouldn't be a good idea because the students would feel like their work wasn't good enough and have a bad effect on them. She went on to mention that her students hadn't even seen her work until a few weeks ago (she's been teaching at the same school for a number of years)

I understand what she's coming from... but would it not be better to show your work to students as an inspiration? I don't really see why you wouldn't? What happened to the Artist/Apprentice idea? Are we that worried that a high school student is going to think their work might or might be good enough? I say show them your art and give them inspiration.. if they feel like their work is worthless give them some encouragement!

Your Thoughts Please.

TAGGED
I normally don't do these.. but whatever.

1.Write these rules.
2.Each tagged person must write 8 things about him/her-self.
3.And he/her has to write a journal about these things.
4.Finally he/her has to tag other 8 people.
5.Go to their dA's page and write they've been tagged.

1. I am scared of Glitter and hate it with a passion.
2. I wish I could sing.
3. I'm studying to be an art teacher.
4. When I first started drawing, I vowed never to draw anything "Real"
5. I enjoy drawing Realistically.
6. I enjoy laughing and making people laugh.
7. While playing soccer I broke my jaw in two places.
8. Today I found some women's home journals from 1905
